Since arriving at Juventus on a free transfer from Manchester United in the summer of 2012, Paul Pogba has quickly grown into one of the most sought-after young talents in the game.
The 21-year-old wasted no time in establishing himself in then-coach Antonio Conte's starting XI and played a key role in the Bianconeri winning the league during his first two seasons in Turin.
Not surprisingly, the versatile midfielder has garnered the attention of other big sides in Europe, and it is no wonder that Juventus are desparate to hang onto one of their most prized assets. In October, the French international signed a new contract to keep him with the Serie A giants until 2019 and would see his reportedly £23,000 weekly pay packet tripled.
Still, that has not prevented clubs from trying to pry him away from the Italian side and recent reports claim that a lofty €70 million fee has been slapped on the player's head in an attempt to keep potential buyers at bay. However, Manchester City, with its riches, apparently are not intimidated by the hefty price and have apparently earmarked him as the ideal replacement for Yaya Toure.
The Ivorian star has appeared unsettled in recent months and did little to quell speculation that he may be angling for a move to Ligue 1 heavyweights PSG in a recent interview. And with his advancing years, City may be keen to move him on in order to bring in a younger option. Interestingly, though, Pogba's former club Manchester United have also been linked with a move to bring him back to Old Trafford, as the Red Devils would be loath to see him plying his trade with their cross-town rivals.
As Juventus have now secured a spot in the round of 16 after drawing Atletico Madrid earlier today, while City will have to fight it out with Roma for their berth, it will be interesting to see whether the former Manchester United starlet could be making a return to the Premier League--albeit with the blue side of Manchester--this summer.
