Mexico will try to become the first country to host three World Cups, following the tournaments of 1970 and 1986.

The Mexican Football Federation stated today their intention to host the 2026 World Cup, which would make Mexico the first country to organize three World Cups in their territory. During an event where CONCACAF unveiled a new sponsor, FEMEXFUT's President Justino Compean assured they have already requested to be considered to put together the tournament once more.

"We want to host the tournament one more time. We have a fighting chance and we will do whatever we can to put it together. We will request to be the hosts of the 2026 World Cup," Compean revealed.

Mexico hosted the 1970 and the 1986 editions of the global tournament, and were supposed to be presenting a bid for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, but finally they decided to leave that option to the United States.

After stating their intention of hosting the global tournament, Compean added Mexico will be hosting the 2016 FIFA Congress, where they will surely try to enhance their possibilities of becoming hosts for the third time.

"When the time comes, we will show everyone involved the true face of our country. We have always been amazing hosts, and we will make it clear to everyone in 2016, when we host FIFA's annual reunion," Compean stated.
