The Red Devils are prepared to splash more cash as Louis Van Gaal seeks to totally overhaul his squad.

After last season's disappointment, Manchester United are keen to make sure that the events of the 2013/2014 campaign are just a short spell of bad luck.

For the first time since the 1989/1990 season, the Red Devils are not making an appearance in European competition, with their poor showings last season not even being enough to ensure them a spot in the Europa League. As such, the club's board really splashed the cash this summer, spending over £100 million to bring in players such as Daley Blind, Luke Shaw, Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, and Angel Di Maria--with the former Real Madrid star setting the new English transfer record with a fee of £59.7 million.

Yet, that is not enough for the highly ambitions Louis Van Gaal. The former Oranje and Bayern Munich coach is keen on not just finishing in a top-four spot, but also making the 20-time Premier League champions a force to be reckoned with across the continent. So, despite the January--and summer--transfer windows yet to open, the rumor mill has already began churning with who could be making a switch to Old Trafford in the near future.

As per English publication Metro, PSG's Edinson Cavani and Borussia Dortmund's Marco Reus are two players apparently on Van Gaal's list. The report quotes £70 million as the price to sign both the Uruguayan and German stars but with Reus' latest injury it is highly unlikely that Manchester United will be making any move for the 25-year-old next month.

Cavani, however, is another matter. Despite his public declarations of being "happy" in Paris, the former Napoli man is not keen on having to play second fiddle to Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic. However, the Red Devils might have to battle it out with rivals Arsenal and Liverpool for the 27-year-old's signature. Reports claim that both the Gunners and the Reds are reportedly prepared to shell out £50 million to bring him to England as early as this January.
