In an effort to avoid incidents like the ones on Sunday, when a Deportivo La Coruña fan died after a fight between hooligans from his team and Atletico Madrid supporters, La Liga's president Javier Tebas urged the clubs to take action against their radical groups, and will propose extreme measures to in order to make Spanish football a proper show for fans around the world.
"Those clubs that directly or indirectly collaborate with radical supporters' clubs, which we will make an official list of, will receive a sanction which will be a fine but could also be related to the league itself, such as having points taken away, or being relegated to a lower division," Tebas explained in an interview.
Added to the incident in Madrid, Lionel Messi was hit by a water bottle during the Valencia - Barcelona match, which sparked controversy about La Liga's involvement in both the players and fans' security. Coaches such as Carlo Ancelotti, Diego Simeone and Luis Enrique pleaded the league to take steps to prevent such incidents, and apparently Tebas will take no chances preventing such actions.
"We will establish a strategy to eliminate these 'ultras' from our stadiums, and we will also deal with verbal violence. We are preparing a range of measures that include investing in human resources in order to put an end to verbal violence, which is a step toward physical violence and, we think, something that we have failed to deal with up to now," Tebas concluded.
