On Sunday, December 7, the MLS will face two of its original franchises in what will be Landon Donovan's last game as a professional player.

Landon Donovan's last game as a professional player will be none other than the MLS Cup final. The historic U.S. striker will play against the New England Revolution with the hopes of bringing the fifth ever Cup for Los Angeles Galaxy.

The Galaxy managed to win the Western Conference Championship in a thrilling matchup against Seattle Sounders. This will be the ninth time the L.A. team will play for the top honor in the MLS, if they manage to win the championship, they will become the winningest team in MLS history, topping DC United's total of four.

On the other hand, New England Revolution will try to earn their first championship in their fifth trip to the final game. The Revs beat the New York Red Bulls with a 4-3 aggregate, and will return to a final game for the first time since 2007.

This will be the third time these two teams meet to determine who will be deemed as champion. Both games ended up with a 1-0 victory for the Galaxy in 2002 and 2005, giving the Revs a chance to redeem themselves.

During a year in which the league entered a transition phase that led even to a new logo, this will be the first time in four years the MLS Cup will have two of their original franchises fight for the championship. The last time this happened, the Colorado Rapids defeated FC Dallas in 2010.
