The former midfielder believes that the Red Devils would have been a better bet in the UCL than City.

They might have won the Premier League twice within the past three years, but that has not stopped Manchester City from being subject to criticism.

Despite being one of the wealthiest sides in Europe, City have found success in the Champions League hard to come by and only made their first appearance in the round of 16 last season, where they were dispatched by Barcelona.

This season so far has not started off well in their continental campaign, but they were given a lifeline thanks to Sergio Aguero's brilliant performance against Bayern Munich. Still, they will now have to battle with Roma who will be desperate to clinch that second-placed spot.

And former Manchester United player Quinton Fortune believes that, not surprisingly, that the Red Devils would have been the "better" option in the Champions League.

"This is their fourth straight season in the Champions League and they don’t seem to have learned anything at all," he sniped in a recent interview.

Not shockingly, he of course opined that his former side would be faring better...even in the same group:

"United have not had a great start to the season but in that same group as City they would have done better, [that's] for sure."

Moreover, Fortune also added that this season's tournament is not the same without the 20-time Premier League winners.

"City have enough depth in their squad but they haven’t taken advantage of it. It’s hard to explain.

"United’s big plus is their experience. Wayne Rooney is a Champions League winner, so is Michael Carrick, so is Angel di Maria.

"And the manager knows all about winning the Champions League, too. It's just not the same without United. It's like not having Barcelona or Real Madrid in the tournament."

Certainly, Fortune will hope that Manchester United, who are currently in fourth place can manage to feature in Europe next season to test out his theory regarding them versus City.
