Schalke have given Roberto Di Matteo a chance to prove his true worth. He is the man who "accidentally" won the UEFA Champions League, giving Chelsea their one and only Champions League trophy against all odds, allowing only one Bayern shot to hit the back of the net from 40 attempts and scoring the equalizer within minutes. Di Matteo and Chelsea's hero of that day is now back at the club in the form of Didier Drogba. However, Diego Costa is likely to lead the way in a vital match in Group G. With a win, Schalke has the opportunity to take over the top spot. However, they cannot qualify on this match day
Chelsea, with a win, can qualify for the next round. A draw in which they score two or more goals will take them through as well. Jose Mourinho will be wary of Schalke this time after having drawn the first match at Stamford Bridge. They took the lead through Cesc Fabregas but could not hold on. They allowed a Jens Keller led Schalke to play their way into the match and take the draw, thanks to Klaas Jan Huntelaar's goal.
Schalke however drew against Maribor, needlessly giving away two points. Such results have really hurt the German side. They have many injury problems to deal with, unlike Chelsea. Mourinho has his entire squad at his disposal. Di Matteo unfortunately does not have the same luxury. Schalke's injury list is rather lengthy; the two most dynamic players in the squad, Jefferson Farfan and Julian Draxler are out.
Sead Kolasinac is also out. Fabian Giefer, Sidney Sam, Leon Goretzka and Chinedu Obasi are all doubtful. Despite their problems, Schalke won a match of huge importance during the weekend against Wolfsburg. Although they came very close to throwing a three goal lead away, the win should give them some confidence coming into the clash against Chelsea.
