Could the 29-year-old Manchester United star and England captain feature for former side Everton once again?

Everton chairman Bill Kenwright has opened the door for a sensational Wayne Rooney return after claiming the English striker is always welcome back at the Goodison Park.

The Manchester United ace, who transferred to Old Trafford back in 2004 on a whopping £27m fee, departed the Toffees for a switch to the Red Devils, a move which did not sit well with the Merseyside club's faithful.

The 29-year-old, who took the English Premier League by storm during his time under then Everton manager David Moyes, has went on to enjoy tremendous success at the Theatre of Dreams.

Signed by legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson at the mere age of 18, Rooney has accumulated two English Premier League medals, one Champions League trophy, and a FIFA Club World Cup since joing Manchester United, but according to Kenwright, the Three Lions skipper remains an Evertonian.

When asked if he could ever see Rooney back at Everton, wearing their famous blue jersey one more time, the club's chairman responded with: "Yes."

"He comes back to Goodison. He's an Evertonian and his family are. He is welcome to come back."

"In all honesty, all I ever do is advise. I am not sidestepping the question. It is always going to be Roberto Martinez's choice."
