The Reds legend is not optimistic about the new striker's chance of success at Anfield.

Since arriving at Liverpool in a €20 million move from Milan, Mario Balotelli has been repeatedly slammed by the English press for failing to set Anfield alight.

The 24-year-old has netted just twice in all competitions for Brendan Rodgers' side and has also courted controversy for some of his actions on the pitch.

Then, of course was the shocking revelation behind his move from Serie A to the Premier League this summer, which, given his propensity to find himself in trouble was the option that last season's runners-up felt would cause them the least amount of concern.

Moreover, the Italian has been subject to heavy criticism from a whole slew of Liverpool legends.

And now, another one, this time Ray Houghton has joined the growing chorus of voices that feel that he is not the right man for the club, due to his "selfish" nature and feels that he ultimately will be a failure.

"He is not a 'team player' and has failed to adapt," he recently stated.

"He needs to [track back] more often and get involved in the build-up, but he isn’t doing that. [However], it is not a big surprise, he was the same at Manchester City and both Milan clubs. Balotelli has to adapt his game to suit [Daniel] Sturridge and [Raheem] Sterling, but I fear that won’t happen...[and to top it off], he is not delivering on a regular basis."
