In a game that was expected to be historic, Real Madrid and Liverpool showed little effort to add three points to their total, with Los Blancos winning 1-0, securing their spot in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16.
Karim Benzema scored the only goal for Carlo Ancelotti's team, reaching five goals in this UEFA Champions League edition. Benzema finished inside the box after a fine cross by Marcelo, giving Madrid a lead that was hardly risked throughout the game.
Liverpool's coach Brendan Rodgers practically gave away the game right from the start, resting key players such as Raheem Sterling, Philippe Coutinho and Steven Gerrard. With next weekend's Premier League match against Chelsea on their mind, Liverpool put little effort into this game, hoping they can seal their next round spot in their upcoming matches.
Cristiano Ronaldo was expected to reach Raul's record of 71 goals in the European competition, but the Portuguese superstar had almost no chances to increase his scoring streak. This was the first time in the last eleven matches Ronaldo was not able to score for Real Madrid, as his assault to the all-time scoring record will have to wait one more game.

That Real Madrid Vs Liverpool game was as boring as the Nigeria vs Iran game at the 2014 world cup. #RMALIV

Never mind that Rodgers left out his stars, who would have thought that Real Madrid would rest Ronaldo.
