The English team agreed to extend Lampard's loan until the end of the season so he can replace Yaya Toure's absence

Frank Lampard's time with Manchester City will not end in January. The Sky Blues agreed with New York City FC, owner of the player's rights, to extend his loan until June 30, according to sources.

Lampard, who arrived at Etihad Stadium this summer, was meant to join the new MLS franchise in January, but due to some absences, coach Manuel Pellegrini requested that the seasoned veteran stayed until the end of the season.

Manchester City will have to endure Yaya Toure's absence for almost two months, since the Ivory Coast's midfielder will play with his country the African Cup in January and February. Another reason to keep Lampard around would be the frequent injuries suffered by key players, such as David Silva and Samir Nasri.

Lampard has scored four goals for Manchester City, two during Premier League matches and two more during their Capital Cup win against Sheffield Wednesday.
