The 30-year-old still continues to struggle for goals and the Rossoneri executive has offered an explanation.

After a disappointing spell at Chelsea, Fernando Torres moved to Milan on a two year loan deal this summer in an effort to revitalize his struggling career.

The 30-year-old was widely regarded as one of the best strikers in the world while at Atletico Madrid and then Liverpool, but endured a nightmare spell at Stamford Bridge that saw his goal-scoring touch desert him time and time again. As a result, the switch to Italy was supposed to be a fresh start for the Spanish international, but he has yet to fully hit the ground running in Serie A.

The Spanish international has already come under criticism for his lack of goal output, with just one so far--in a draw with Empoli--but he nonetheless has the backing of the Rossoneri hierarchy. And now club executive Adriano Galliani is the latest to not just throw his support behind him but also offer an explanation as to why the player has not set the Italian league alight just yet.

"I believe that the problem with Torres' ankle has held him back so far," he stated recently.

"When you get injured at your peak it is normal that it takes time to get back to your usual condition."

He also went on to praise the player despite his lack of goals.

"I like Torres because he makes the right movements. In the game against Verona look at the goal where Keisuke Honda scored on Stephan El Shaarawy's assist, [for example].

"A more selfish striker would have tried to get the ball but his run took a defender away from his team-mate."
