Borussia Dortmund's troubles in the league appear to worsen with each passing week. This time, against Hannover, they delivered a good performance devoid of too many errors only to be punished for poor finishing yet again. A wonderful free kick by Hiroshi Kiyotake denied them the chance of earning at least one point. In the UEFA Champions League, most of Dortmund's shots seem to bend in while, in the Bundesliga, most of their shots tend to hit the crossbar or miss the target by a few centimeters. Dortmund even played against Hannover in their Champions League kits to reverse their fortunes in the Bundesliga; however, this did not help their cause either.
At the rate at which they are dropping points, they will be more concerned about avoiding relegation than catching FC Bayern at the top. If they end up in the 2.Bundesliga (which is almost impossible of course), they might have to play two matches against Hamburger SV's biggest regional rivals, St.Pauli. Pauli themselves are in serious trouble; they are sixteenth in the 2.Bundesliga, having collected a meager 11 points from 11 matches. They have won three at home and drawn one; their away form though has given them many headaches. They have collected only one point away from home this season.
Jürgen Klopp will surely have one important clash at the back of his mind when fielding the team for this Cup match. FC Bayern is waiting for them on Saturday. Winning two matches in a row would be a huge boost. Beating Pauli will be helpful but beating Bayern could be the event which turns the season around for BVB. Bayern though, despite the small slip against Gladbach, have bulldozed almost all before them this season. Klopp is surely happy to have Ilkay Gündogan back in his midfield. BVB does not have too many injury worries ahead of them.
