After a scoreless 45, Manchester United vs. Chelsea finally began to take off during the second half, which saw veteran striker Didier Drogba net his first Premier League goal since making a return this summer.
However, just as Blues fans thought they would depart Old Trafford with all three points, in the last moments of the match, defender Branislav Ivanovic was shown a second yellow and dismissed as the referee judged he had fouled Angel Di Maria.
And shortly after, Robin Van Persie fired home the goal the home crowd had been looking for, salvaging a point for the Red Devils and forcing the Blues to drop two.
Not surprisingly, Jose Mourinho was not impressed following the game.
"We have a little space now for our mistakes... or for referees' mistakes," he sniped to reporters.
"[But] if I say what is in my heart, I will get in trouble. I prefer not to talk about [the Ivanovic incident]. We had many things go against us, [and] the result was not very good but [it was] acceptable."
Mourinho reveals his thoughts on the game with some interesting post-match comments:
Given the controversy that usually surrounds red cards, fans on both sides took to Twitter to discuss it:
Just seen the chelsea sending off and it looks like Di Maria should get done for diving, looked like Ivanovic hardly touched him

@robshepherd5 @GNev2 Ivanovic a top top defender. He knew what he was doing. Caught Di Maria down the Acilles. Yellow Card.

Phil Neville: 'I actually thought he [Ivanovic] was unlucky to be sent off. Because they were two soft yellow cards.' #MUFC #CFC

Relevant question - What on earth was Ivanovic doing fouling Di Maria out in the corner? Stupidity.
