The Uruguayan was full of praise for his Barcelona team-mate ahead of Saturday's highly-anticipated Santiago Bernabeu encounter, as the Argentine aims at entering La Liga record book

Barcelona's summer signing Luis Suarez has weighed his opinion on the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate, and to no surprise, insisted that the Argentine attacker is better than the Portuguese ace.

The Uruguayan star made these comments ahead of Saturday's highly-anticipated El Clasico clash between the two La Liga giants when Luis Enrique's men travel to face Carlo Ancelotti's side, a game which could see the four-time Ballon d'Or winner became the highest goalscorer in Spanish Primera Division history.

“In my opinion Leo is better,” Suarez argued. “I train and play with Leo every day and he surprises me every day. He is unique.

“Everybody knows what he has brought to Barcelona, what kind of world-class player he is.

“For me he is the best player in the world for what he has already done, and he’s still so young."

Suarez, who joined the Catalan side from English Premier League club Liverpool back in July, claims he broke down in tears after completing his Camp Nou switch, and admitted that he thought his biting episode at the 2014 World Cup would ruin his football career.

"I felt I had ruined my career," Suarez confessed.

"At first, I did not want anyone to know anything. I locked myself away with my family, but then I reflected on what I had done, I apologised and felt liberated.

"By then discussions with Barca had begun, and when Pere [Guardiola, his agent] called me to tell me it was done, I began to cry, because of the situation I was living and the support that the club was offering me.

"I felt happy about the commitment the club had shown me.

"But I was still afraid that the repercussions of the incident might halt the deal. I knew that could happen."
