The Uruguayan went from celebrating a goal to exiting the pitch after doing a sniper gesture, as two other players were dismissed in Friday's heated clash

Edinson Cavani's day quickly turned from a dream to a nightmare during Paris Saint-Germain's 3-1 win over Lens in Ligue 1.

With the international break coming to an end, the two sides met on Friday at the Stade de France due to Lens' Bollaert stadium being renovated.

With the title holders looking to gain ground on runaway leaders Marseille, who top the league with 22 points, Laurent Blanc's men came out of the fixture with all three points, moving to within six points of Marcelo Bielsa's side.

But the victory did not come with ease. Adama Coulibaly put the home side in front after 10 minutes with a 20-yard strike, but Yohan Cabaye leveled the game for Les Parisiens after 28 minutes.

Argentine defender Maxwell then gifted Paris Saint-Germain a 2-1 lead before being awarded a penalty in the 55th minute. Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani stepped up to the plate to convert the spot kick, and confidently slotted in his team's third goal of the night. What happened next, though, was a perfect definition of a goal celebration gone wrong.

After putting the ball in the back of the net, the 27-year attacker got on one knee performed a sniper gesture, celebrating the goal by mimicking a gun.

Referee Nicolas Rainville was not pleased with Cavani's actions and gave him a yellow for the goal celebration. And when the former Napoli ace protested against the booking, he put his hand on the match official, which resulted in a second yellow card for the Uruguayan as Cavani was given his marching orders.

Cavani was not the only player to be dismissed in the game. Lens' Jean-Philippe Gbamin picked up a second booking for a shove on Cavani inside the penalty box, which led to the 55th minute spot kick. Jerome Le Moigne was the last player to be kicked off the pitch after being handed a second yellow right before the hour mark.
