North London side Arsenal, believed front runners for the Uruguayan's signature, have been handed a huge boost in the race to sign the 27-year-old as his Ligue 1 exit draws closer

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has reportedly requested a transfer to the English Premier League as rumors of a Ligue 1 exit hit full drive.

Signed from Serie A side Napoli only a season back for a whopping £55m, the Uruguayan has grown frustrated with life at Parc des Princes and now looks to embark on a new journey come the new year when the January transfer window swings open.

Once known as one of the most lethal goalscorers in Europe, chased after by the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea, Cavani has failed to live up to his hefty price tag and has been playing second fiddle to Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

In an attempt to accomadate the two attackers, Laurent Blanc has been deploying Los Charrúas ace on the flank, a role that Cavani is believed to be unhappy with.

As reported by Fichajes (per the Metro), Jose Mourinho's side and Liverpool are all in for Cavani, however, London club Arsenal is the most likely destination for Cavani and are front runners in the race to land the Parisiens star.

Ibrahimovic looks to have finally pushed Cavani out the PSG door, and into Arsene Wenger's lap, as Arsenal plot a sensational £55m move

Arsene Wenger is a known admirer of the 27-year-old, and with Paris Saint-Germain willing to let him depart for a fee similar to what the Ligue 1 champions had to pay to prise him from Stadio San Paolo back in 2013, the long-serving French boss appears ready to cut a big cheque to lure him to the Emirates Stadium.

Le Prof was rumored to be after Cavani during the late days of the summer transfer window after seeing Olivier Giroud ruled out until 2015, but was unable to work a deal, instead moving for a £16m move for former Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck.
