The French striker referred to the possibility of their historic rivals and Espanyol being banned to play La Liga matches if the Community of Catalunya emancipates from Spanish territory

Karim Benzema voiced his opinion on a possible ban that would prevent Catalunyan clubs Barcelona and Espanyol of participating in La Liga. The French striker seemed reluctant to the possibility, stating that Real Madrid need their all-time rivals to make themselves better:

"We need Barcelona in La Liga. We hope that whatever happens, they can stay playing there. You would only have Real Madrid representing the league, we need them to keep improving. It wouldn't make any sense for them to play in any other league, such as Ligue 1. I truly hope they can stay," Benzema told the press.

Real Madrid's number nine stated that people should not compare Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Furthermore, he added that not even their own teammates can compare to any of them:

"You can't compare Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi. They don't have the same playing style, and they are two of the best players in this era. I mean, you can compare their individual trophies and stuff, but comparing their playing style is just not possible. If I even wanted to measure up to them, I would have to increase my stats to even try to be at their level. They are the best in the world right now, no doubt about it," Karim stated.

Benzema left yesterday's training session with hip pain, making doubtful his participation in this weekend's friendly match against Portugal.
