The English striker put pen to paper on a deal that will see him remain at Anfield until 2019

England strikre Daniel Sturridge has agreed a long-term contract with current side Liverpool, as announced on the club's official Twitter account.

The 25-year-old put pen on to paper on a new five-year deal, which will see the Three Lions attacker remain at Anfield 2019, earning the former Chelsea man a reported £150,000-a-week salary.

“It feels great,” Sturidge told the club's official website after agreeing term with the Reds. “It's a big, big day in my life to commit to this club and to give the club my best years, which are ahead of me.

“I am thankful for the opportunity and that is the reason I committed my future. Everyone has been great with me, from the fans to the staff to the players, so it was an easy decision. I'm happy with how everything is going.”

We did it!! Proud to announce I've signed a new long term contract with Liverpool football club. I'm buzzing. All the hard work has paid off but continues because there is nothing I want more than to life trophies and be successful with this club. Grateful to God for this opportunity. I want to thank the fans, players and the coaching staff. My family have been there for me throughout my whole life and without them this wouldn't have been possible. Love you guys. It's an emotional day believe me. #redordead #LFC #lafamilia

“I may have had some good games and scored some goals, but literally this is the beginning in terms of what I can show. I don't feel I've shown really what I can do as a footballer.”

Sturidge has only been at Liverpool for little over a year, joining from Stamford Bridge back in January of 2013 on a £12m fee, but has been in fine form for Brendan Rodgers' side.

However, upon further investigation by Bleacher Report UK, the ex-Blues forward's signature was not inked on a detailed contract, full of many different stipulations and clauses. Sturridge was instead handed a blank piece of white paper to pose with for the cameras.

Finishing last season's English Premier League with 21 goals, second best to only Luis Suarez's tally of 31 goals, as Liverpool came achingly close to the tile, Sturridge has found the net 36 time in 52 games for the Merseyside club.

With the departure of the 27-year-old Uruguayan ace, and with summer signing Mario Balotelli yet to get a grip with his new club upon his return to England, Sturridge will play an integral part in Brendan Rodgers' side's title challenge, but looks to overcome a thigh injury that he picked up whilst on international duty.

Sturridge will be hoping to be fit in time to face West Brom when Liverpool host The Baggies this Saturday.
