Cristiano Ronaldo has finally commented on last Saturday’s incident at El Madrigal which saw Manchester United fans fly a banner.

It has been a bit more than five years since Ronaldo left Old Trafford for the Santiago Bernabeu in a lucrative £80M deal. Since his departure, the Real Madrid star has reached higher heights – winning both the Ballon d’Or and the UEFA Champions League for a second time in 2014.

Meanwhile, around the world, millions of Manchester United supporters have grown nostalgic. One too many times, the prolific Portuguese goalscorer has played with their hearts by stating that a return to the Theatre of Dreams could happen in future.

For United Reel – a Man United fan club – taking those claims to the next level was important, so much that it decided to invest nearly £3,000 funded by members to fly a banner during Real Madrid’s league match away to Villarreal, in an attempt to seduce Ronaldo.

A GLANCE: How CR7 reacted to seeing the “COME HOME RONALDO” banner

“How could I not see the plane? It flew by ten times,” the 29-year-old superstar winger stated with a smile, when asked by Italian media La Gazzetta dello Sport.

So did United Reel’s plan to tempt Ronaldo work? Apparently not, as he added:

“I’ve always said that I have a family at Manchester United but I’m good in Madrid. I’m happy about the affection that United fans feel for me.

“It signifies that I left good memories.”

Will Ronaldo’s spell at Old Trafford forever remain a memory or will he one day revive things by returning to his old club?
