The former Manchester United defender has not been impressed with the new captain's actions as of late.

It appears that fans were not the only ones not impressed with Wayne Rooney's performance against West Ham this past weekend.

Despite netting a goal, the 28-year-old captain was given his marching orders for a reckless foul on Stewart Downing that left his side with 10 men for over 30 minutes.

And although the Red Devils managed to hang on for a much-needed win, his actions were slammed by a host of pundits and now former player Paul McGrath has added his voice to the growing list of critics.

"He has [caused a problem for Louis] Van Gaal because [now] he can say, ‘Do we really need Wayne sprinting round the pitch, kicking people and maybe being petulant?’" he commented while appearing on talkSPORT.

And the retired defender didn't stop there as he continued to lay into the star, who also now serves as captain of the Three Lions and will miss the next couple of games as he serves out his suspension.

"They have got so much talent up front that he's probably not going to be missed as much as people think he is.

"[So], Van Gaal is going to have to change the whole front system around and it might work better. You never know..."
