A total of 20 goals scored, a clean sheet and maximum wins. But what are Real Madrid likely to encounter against the oddest participants in the UCL this year?
Ludogorets were seconds away from recording an excellent feat on Matchday 1 of the UEFA Champions League. However, in spectacular fashion, Canadian goalkeeper Borjan conceded a late penalty which Steven Gerrard successfully converted. With zero point in the bag, the Bulgarian club welcome European kings Real Madrid in Razgrad on Matchday 2.
It will be interesting to see which approach the hosts will take, considering Los Blancos’ devastating form in attack led by Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese forward is not only the reigning Champions League Golden Boot titleholder.
He is also the player with the most goals across Europe’s top leagues this season, thanks to his 10 goals in La Liga. In other words, he is still in top shape. In the UCL, Ronaldo has already opened his goal account but one would expect him to want more… and possibly add more on Wednesday night.
The underdogs are vulnerable, having won nine out of 19 matches (less than half) in all competitions this season. However, the beauty of drama in football is that anything can happen.
Wishful thinking or not?
Real Madrid's lineup: Casillas, Varane, Ramos, Ronaldo, Bale, Marcelo, Chicharito, Arbeloa, Modric, Isco, Illarra
Real Madrid's subs: Navas, Pepe, Kroos, Benzema, James, Carvajal, Nacho
