Before Estoril and Benfica will take the field today, the visitors will have some added confidence knowing that Sporting and Porto played to a one goal draw last night.
With both their direct rivals earning just one point, a victory for Benfica would leave them with four points clear of Porto and six of Sporting. That wouldn't be a bad cushion to have after just six matches in the current campaign.
Jorge Jesus' side is not only on good form domestically, but they have a very impressive record when playing away to Estoril.
These two sides have met a total of 25 times in official matches across all competitions and the numbers are alarming. From those 25, the hosts have managed to defeat the águias just once. That victory was way back in 1946, with Estoril coming out on top 6-3. Since then, Benfica has won 17 times while drawing only four.
Estoril has just one victory from five Primeira Liga matches, but that won't stop Jose Couceiro from having confidence in his players.
"Although Estoril has not defeated Benfica at home in quite some time, this is a match of great responsibility," Couceiro said on Friday.
"We hope to be able to compete in this match which would allow us to grow in confidence, just as we did against PSV."
