It never seemed that it would end, but the Reds finally made it past their tough opponents to make it into the next round.

Earlier today, Liverpool fans were kept on the edge of their seats as they watched their team take on lower-division side Middlesbrough in this year's Capital One Cup.

While the trophy is not considered a top priority for many of England's top sides, they nonetheless obviously would not like to be dumped out, especially not by a team that's not even featuring in the nation's top flight.

Well, Liverpool had to earn their spot in the next round the hard way...via extra time followed by the longest penalty shoot-out fans have seen in a while.

How many? At the end of it all, even the goalkeepers got in on the action as the visitors weren't so keen to give up with dragging out the fight for as long as possible.

Here's some of the reactions on Twitter.
