The former Red Devils assistant trainer has questioned why Van Gaal has yet to utilize his new signing.

Former Manchester United assistant coach René Meulensteen believes that it's quite odd that new signing Luke Shaw has not featured yet for the Red Devils.

Louis Van Gaal's side splashed out an eyebrow raising £31 million for the former Southampton defender, setting a new record for a transfer fee for a teenager, yet the 19-year-old has remained in the shadows, due to reports that the Dutch tactician is not too convinced of his fitness levels.

However, the Dutchman believes that his compatriot simply does not hold the English international in high regard.

Despite being the world's most expensive teenager, Shaw has yet to make his debut this season

"It's a big surprise for me [that he hasn't played yet] because he's an up-and-coming player," the 50-year-old, who was last at the helm of Fulham, stated in a recent interview.

"[Shaw] has a good left foot and a lot of pace. He’s got a lot to learn to get to a Manchester United level though.

"[All in all, I think] he’s a great prospect but [Van Gaal has also] brought [Marcos] Rojo in, which is bad news for [Luke]."
