Wenger has revealed the player that he feels was his best ever signing, and his response will surely surprise fans.

Long-serving Arsenal coach Arsene Wenger revealed quite a bit in a recent interview.

The French tactician, who has been on the bench since 1996 was keen to discuss his transfer dealings during his nearly two decades with the Gunners, revealing both his biggest regrets as well as his most successful signings.

Not surprisingly, Wenger cited Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo as the player he truly rues the fact that he let the two-time Ballon d'Or winner slip through his grasp, but what is the most eyebrow raising is the footballer that he feels is the best ever signing he has made.

Arsenal boss Wenger has made quite a few notable signings, including €50 million man Mesut Ozil...

...and star striker Thierry Henry, believed to be one of the greatest players ever to don a Gunners jersey

Many would have assumed him to name French star Henry, who scored over 200 goals during his time with Arsenal, but shockingly, it's not the 37-year-old all-time French top marksman.

No, rather, for him, it's Cameroon's Laureano Bisan-Etame Mayer, commonly just known as Lauren.

Remember this guy? Lauren was part of the famous 2003-2004 undefeated squad aka the 'Invincibles'

"I’d never say which player was the best, but I think it’s the signings like Lauren who you spot when nobody else does," he revealed in the interview.

"He was a right midfielder who I played at right back and was one of the Invincibles [from the 2003-2004 undefeated season]."
