The winner of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League will automatically qualify for next season’s UEFA Champions League. No wonder Tottenham Hotspur are so serious about getting off to a good start. Here’s where to watch Partizan vs Spurs on September 18, 2014.

Tottenham’s 2014/15 season is like a roller-coaster, so far. Inconsistency has seen them trounce Queens Park Rangers 4-0 before going on to collapse 3-0 at home to Liverpool, last month. Last weekend, they failed to pick maximum points away to Sunderland as a late own goal by Harry Kane nullified the 48th minute effort of Eriksen. This brought coach Mauricio Pochettino to state:

“I’m disappointed, my players too, because we played well, made chances. In other games you’ll have the chances that we had and win. I’m not worried because the most important thing is to create the chances.

“We need to be more solid. […] We need to be smarter.”

It’s time for Spurs to forget about the disappointment they suffered against the Black Cats. Their opponent on Thursday is Partizan Belgrade. The visitors have been boosted with the news that striker Roberto Soldado is fit to play. He missed his side’s loss to Liverpool and draw to Sunderland due to a stiff back and neck.

However, Pochettino will not count on the services of key players Emmanuel Adebayor, Danny Rose, Nacer Chadli, Younes Kaboul and Dembele. These players did not make the trip to Serbia for the UEFA Europa League opener.

For Federico Fazio, the possibility of making his Tottenham debut is exciting. The Argentine defender, who is a Europa League winner, is looking to inject his experience into the London-based squad. The ambitious summer transfer signing told Spurs’ official website:

“It’s difficult but if we want to win this competition we need to compete in all the matches. We need to start strongly in a difficult game in Partizan and try to get the three points.

“The final is in May but we must take it match-by-match and think about the next game. That’s against Partizan and we need to win.”

Tottenham Hotspur’s other adversaries in Group C are Turkish side Besiktas and Greece’s Asteras Tripoli.
