Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly fed up at Real Madrid. Manchester United are also preparing fat cheques to sign the reigning FIFA Ballon d’Or winner.

Retired defender Gary Neville was speaking on Sky Sports’ “Monday Night Football” show when he explained his take concerning the possibility of a return for CR7 to Old Trafford. He said:

“There was talk last summer that it was either going to be Ronaldo or Gareth Bale and there are rumours of Cristiano not being happy in Madrid.

“Obviously last year they won the Champions League, so has he achieved what he wanted to achieve in Madrid? Has he done what he set out to do? That's question one.”

Affection is of high importance in relationships and Gary Neville believes that Cristiano Ronaldo may be looking to reignite that special bond he had with Manchester United fans during his six-year spell in England.

Manchester United fans warmly welcomed Real Madrid's Ronaldo back in 2013 at the Theatre of Dreams in the UEFA Champions League

“Does he love Manchester? Does he love United? Yes, absolutely. He has talked more and more in the last 12 to 18 months about how he misses Old Trafford,” Neville reminded.

“The reception he got there [when Real Madrid defeat Man UTD two seasons ago] and the way the fans reacted towards him, I've not seen that for many players.”

The thought of reuniting with influential winger Angel di Maria and old pal Wayne Rooney could play a big role in Ronaldo’s return to Old Trafford. At Real Madrid, at the moment, things are not clicking anymore with the addition of players like James Rodriguez and Toni Kroos at the expense of Di Maria and Xabi Alonso.

Manchester United’s Ed Woodward has shown that he can do the impossible to revive the spirit of the Theatre of Dreams. Although the club fell to its lowest point in decades, under David Moyes, it managed to attract big signatures during the recently-closed summer transfer window. How? By splashing over £150M.

If belief comes first as the Red Devils say it, these hot rumours about Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United may finally come true one day… unless super-agent Jorge Mendes keeps on playing never-ending mind games involving Los Blancos and the Mancunians – at his benefit and the benefit of his mega-rich client, Ronaldo, who recently reiterated:

“I love Manchester. Everyone knows that — I have said it many times. Manchester is in my heart. I left many good friends there, the supporters are amazing and I wish I can come back one day. I am happy here in Real Madrid and have four more years, but in the future you never know because they treated me unbelievably there.”

BIG QUESTION MARK: If CR7 returns to Old Trafford, what number will he wear? Di Maria is rocking the iconic number 7 already
