The Mexican politician is under investigation because of this racist remark. Fans and media supported Ronaldinho asking for the man's resignation.

It seems not everybody's happy with Ronaldinho's arrival to Liga MX. Last Friday, during the former International player's unveiling with Gallos Blancos, a Mexican politician named Carlos Treviño complained about football fans, referring to Ronaldinho as "a monkey".

"Seriously, I'm a tolerant person, but I HATE football and the idiotizing phenomenon it produces on people... I hate it even more when fans flood the streets, taking me two hours to get home...Just to go and watch AN APE... Brazilian, but AN APE NONETHELESS. This is just a ridiculous circus."

Hours after his Facebook rant, Mexican fans trolled the politician, forcing him to erase his remarks on Facebook. The matter has been the talk of the day in every media broadcast, forcing Ronaldinho's new teammates such as Yasser Corona to start a campaign supporting the player:

"I've tried to tweet about the Senator that had the temerity to call one of our teammates "an ape"

"I just hope that those responsible act as they should against him, and I will try not to call him names, since he is one step ahead in the evolutionary process"

"We are all apes" ( #TodosSomosSimios)

Following the fans' reaction, the Mexican politician apologized to Ronaldinho for his racist remarks through a public letter and via his Twitter feed:

"A sincere apology for my unfortunate remark. I hold myself responsible for all my actions"

"Once again, I apologize for my stupidity. I've sent a letter to Club Queretaro apologizing myself"

The player's club demanded a full investigation, followed by a statement issued by the Mexican National Comission Against Discrimination, indicating the politician will be prosecuted for his racist remarks.
