Belenenses has not defated Sporting CP away from home in nearly 50 years, but that won't discourage them on Saturday. Get all the TV listings for this meeting between two Lisbon sides.

Belenenses will travel to the Estádio Alvalade ahead of their opposition in the league standings, but they have not had great success away to Sporting.

Lito Vidigal’s side has two victories and one defeat in the Primeira Liga. They opened the domestic campaign with two straight victories over Penafiel and Nacional, but a very strong V. Guimarães side was too much for them to handle.

Even after Guimarães went down to 10 men in the 21st minute, Belenenses managed to concede three unanswered goals.

They will now have to regain their focus ahead of a very difficult challenge. The last time the side from Belem defeated Sporting away from home was in 1955, when they came away with a 1-2 victory. Since then, it’s been a long string of defeats with a few draws in the mix.

Vidigal is aware of his club’s poor streak in this fixture, and despite Sporting having a Champions League match mid-week, the Belenenses manager is confident the hosts will be at their best.

“Even if they rest a few players, Sporting will always be able to field a strong squad because they are a title contender,” Vidigal said in his press conference on Thursday.

“This is an opportunity for my players to do something fantastic because Belenenses has not win at Alvalade in quite some time.”

With history on his club’s side, Marco Silva is looking for his second victory of the campaign.

His side came away with one point before the international break against Benfica thanks to a mistake from Artur Moraes. That won’t matter for the Sporting manager, and he will now need to be 100 percent focused on Saturday’s match.

“Wednesday’s match doesn’t influence anything,” Silva said.

“The objective is the three points. We will need to be a strong and compact team on the pitch.”

Portuguese international Cedric will be unavailable, but Carrillo and Slimani should see some action.

This meeting between two historic sides from Lisbon will attract some attention across the country. If you are outside the country and want to watch this match, be sure to visit the Sporting vs Belenenses match page for full TV listings.
