Torres was confirmed as a starter by Mexico’s head coach Miguel Herrera on Monday.

Erick Torres is set to make his debut for the Mexican national team in a friendly match against Bolivia on Tuesday night at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado as confirmed by Miguel Herrera on Monday. The Mexican coach usually names the expected line-up one day before the match and this time was not the exception.

Although Torres has already been called up for Mexico’s youth teams, this is the first time that the striker has been considered for the senior team. ‘El Cubo’ earned his first call up for Mexico after scoring a total of 14 goals for Chivas USA during the current MLS season. Currently on loan from parent club Chivas de Guadalajara, Torres has shined in a team that is underperforming and struggling to get points this season.

Chivas USA will disappear at the end of the season as Jorge Vergara sold the club earlier this year and Torres is expected to go back to Mexico once the MLS season is over. In the meantime, the 21-year-old will try to make the most of his time remaining in the MLS to keep impressing the Mexican coach and become a regular at ‘El TRI’.

When the match kicks off on Tuesday, he would have already fulfilled one of his main goals: to play for the Mexican national team. After a 0-0 draw against Chile on Saturday, Mexico will look to score their first goals since the World Cup in Brazil.
