Following their 2-0 friendly win over the Netherlands, Italy take on Norway in their first competitive fixture under new coach Antonio Conte.

Shortly after resigning as head coach of reigning Scudetto champions Juventus, Antonio Conte shocked calcio followers again by taking over as the Italian national team's coach following Cesare Prandelli's departure. Nonetheless, the former Bianconeri tactician has quickly moved to establish his own personal brand of football, with a preview of perhaps what is to come shown through the Azzurri's recent 2-0 win over Holland in a friendly.

Interestingly, despite being available, one talking point was Conte's exclusion of mercurial striker Mario Balotelli. Although the Liverpool man is suspended for today's EURO 2016 qualifier, so is Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio and the latter was called up to feature against the Netherlands.

Instead, the new Azzurri boss seems to want to move in a different direction regarding his attack, calling up last season's capocannoniere Ciro Immobile and largely unknown Sassuolo striker Simone Zaza to spearhead his offense. As a result of the duo's impressive showing, they likely will be the ones leading the line against their Scandinavian opponents.

Despite the hosts' poor form that has seen them fail to find a win in their last five fixtures, the evergreen skipper Gigi Buffon was especially given that his squad have not won in Norway since 1937

"[With regards] to Norway, as a Scandinavian team, they play very physically and can cause us problems with their long balls and aerial strength. [Hence], we have to respect them and not take this match lightly," he noted in a pre-match press conference.

In addition to missing the aforementioned Marchisio through suspension, Conte will also have to do without two more of his former Bianconeri personnel--Andrea Pirlo and Giorgio Chiellini--who will be sitting this one out with injuries of their own. Norway will pretty have much most of their personnel at their disposal, but many pundits clearly rate Italy as the side to leave Oslo with all three points.
