The work group in charge of planning the tournament is seeking to modify the normal dates for the World Cup to avoid severe heat waves during the summer months in the Asian country.

World Cup 2022 may be played during the earlier months of the year...or the latest. According to FIFA, the work group established to create the calendar for the 2018-2024 cycle is formally analyzing the possibility of moving the tournament to the earlier months of the calendar. If this doesn't work out, the work group would establish the tournament to be played during the months of November and December of the same year.

During FIFA's Executive Board meeting in Zurich, the work group had their first meeting. Their first order of business was a possible adjustment to the calendar, giving room to celebrate the World Cup in the earlier or in the later months of the year. The work group has established the weather conditions during the summer would prove too extreme for fans and players, making it impossible to give a tournament worth remembering.

Sheik Salmán bin Ebrahim Al Jalifa, President of the Asian Football Confederation, headed the meeting, making the commitment of reuniting the work group next November, so more analysis can be provided on the consequences the change of dates may bring to world football.

FIFA's President, Sepp Blatter, has been harshly criticized for giving the tournament's organization to a country with no "football tradition", and has endured constant speculation for the real reasons why Qatar was elected as host country. Today,  Blatter announced he will be running for a fifth term as FIFA's top man, leading to criticism from those who think he should step down.
