Starting yesterday, rumors flooded the Internet following the announcement that Maicon had been axed from Brazil's national team. At first, the "internal problem" quoted by the Brazilian Football Confederation involved Maicon's participation in a couple of pranks against his teammates David Luiz and Elias.
Following these reports, the CBF hasn't made an official statement, but sources indicate the player broke the curfew imposed by coach Dunga. Apparently, the player was eleven hours late, showing up on Sunday morning rather than Saturday evening. After the player finally showed up, the team's technical comission demanded answers, but the player refused to explain his whereabouts forcing his dismissal. The 33-year old will be replaced by Fabinho, who was part of the U-21 squad that will be playing in Qatar. The player may debut with the absolute Brazilian team on Tuesday against .Ecuador
After failing to earn their sixth World Cup trophy, the CBF turned to former coach Dunga to take control of the Brazilian team. The Brazilian coach is well-known for his disciplinary actions, and this situation involving the eldest player in the squad is being considered by Brazilian press members as a warning for the younger players.

Wow, so Maicon was ELEVEN hours late from the date fixed by the CBF for the return to the hotel after having the day off. Makes sense now.

The reliable @mart_fern says that Maicon showed up really late at the hotel. Dunga expelled him as a message to the younger players.
