Radamel Falcao's age has come under deep scrutiny as reports claim the new Red Devils signing is actually 30 years old

Manchester United have publicly come out and calmed down rumors questioning the true age of their new goalscoring acquisition Radamel Falcao.

Weeks after the Red Devils completed the deal to bring the Colombian ace to Old Trafford, the former Porto attacker is already embroiled in controversy, as doubts surrounding his date of birth resurfaced.

According to the English media, Falcao, who as stated in official documentation is 28, was actually born two years prior to that, making him 30, as the player is accused of lying about his age.

Suspicion over the Colombian striker's age first arose during the player's Argentine Primera Division days, when he played for River Plate. Falcao allegedly doctored his age in order to take part in the Under-20 World Cup, back in 2005.

This is believed to be a major factor in the 20-time English Premier League champions' decision to bring in the player on a one-year loan, who could be signed as appose to a permanent contract.

The former Atletico Madrid man could elongate his Theatre of Dreams when his £6m loan comes to an end, as the Manchester side has the option of buying the player from Monaco, taking his total cost to a whopping £52m.

In 2012, Falcao's old school released this document claiming the Colombian striker was born in 1984, making him 30 years old

However, as written in the Daily Mail, Louis Van Gaal's side sought assurances from the player and his representatives regarding his true age, and were satisfied with the legal documentation that were provided. The club stated:

“We were aware of the rumours but it was never an issue for us.”

In fact, Manchester United's major concern was the player's fitness. Falcao had received operation on his left knee after suffering cruciate ligament injury in a Ligue 1 clash back in January, an injury that kept him out of the 2014 World Cup.

This, though, is something that does not worry the player himself, who underwent a rigorous medical before putting pen to paper on his Red Devils contract. After Colombia's 1-0 loss to Brazil in a friendly, on Friday, Falcao said:

“Physically, I feel spectacular. As I get into game shape, I believe I’ll show I’m still at the top level.”
