After their World Cup disappointment, Croatia will hope to start things off right in their first EURO 2016 qualifying match.

After two disappointing EURO 2012 and World Cup campaigns in which they failed to get out of their group, Croatia will be hoping to start off right in their opening EURO 2016 qualifying fixture. In their opponents they will face off against a team that should be a straightforward win for Niko Kovac's men. Malta have never qualified for any major international competition and in fact only won their first qualifying point back in September 2011. when they drew Georgia 1-1 in their attempt to gain a spot in the EURO 2012 tournament.

Moreover, the tiny island nation have endured a miserable run of form this year, with their last win being back in 2013 when they earned a hard-fought 3-2 victory over fellow minnows the Faroe Islands. Meanwhile, Croatia heads into this game having won their recent friendly clash against Cyprus thanks to a Mario Mandzukic brace and will certainly like to get all three points as a way to build up a good run of form before taking on tougher opponents like Norway and Italy in their group.

On paper at least, this game looks to be one of damage control for the visitors as they will look to keep the scoreline as low as possible, whereas for the hosts, it could be a good chance for Kovac to introduce some newer players and try out some new formations as they aspire to qualify for their fourth consecutive EURO tournamennt.
