Manuel Pellegrini looks to beat Arsene Wenger in the race to land the 25-year-old German superstar, who is also on Bayern Munich's radar

According to the Daily Star, yet another elite European club has entered the race for coveted Borussia Dortmund attacker Marco Reus.

Reigning English Premier League champions Manchester City are rumored to be ready to battle London giants Arsenal for the 25-year-old German superstar's signature,

Reus, who narrowly missed out on die Mannschaft's World Cup campaign after picking up an injury inches before the tournament's kick off, has won plenty of plaudits ever since he moved to the Signal Iduna Park from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2012.

Reus is under contract with his Jurgen Klopp's side until 2017, but has long been linked with a Borussia Dortmund exit ever since the club's chief Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed the player has a release clause in his contract with Die Borussen.

Rumor of a Borussia Dortmund exit was further fueled after German publication Bild reported attempts to tie down Reus to a long-term deal failed, as Reus refused to sign a contract extension with the club, alerting Europe's top team of the 25-year-old's availability.

Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Manchester United have all been tipped with a move for Reus, but with the Blaugrana's transfer-window ban, Real Madrid's signing of James Rodriguez, and the Red Devils hefty £59.7 Angel Di Maria acquisition, the odds appear to be stacked against them.

Manuel Pellegrini's steered clear of any mega-money move this summer after UEFA imposed a two-year spending cap of £49.9m due to FFP breaching, but the Citizens are confident this restriction will be lifted after staying within the guidelines.

As stated in the report, Manchester City’s transfer-fixer Txiki Begiristain is already working on the deal to bring Reus to the Etihad, with a bid above £25m believed to be enough to prise Dortmund of their key asset.

As to whether the player himself is keen on finding pastures new, it is not known, but if a sale were to happen, a move to England appears the likely outcome as the 2012 Champions League runners-up look to avoid losing yet another star to bitter league rivals Bayern Munich.
