New York City FC midfielder Frank Lampard had his word on why he didn’t stay longer with the ‘Blues’.

Frank Lampard admitted that he had no reasons to leave Chelsea and that he would have stayed longer if they had offered him a contract. The 35-year-old midfielder told the British press on Friday that he didn’t receive an offer to stay.

“I would have obviously stayed if Chelsea had offered me another year. There was no reason for me to leave,” the midfielder said.

“If Chelsea had given me a new contract it would have been mad not to take it at the time.

“It wasn’t that I didn’t think I could still do it. If I felt like that I wouldn’t have gone to City on loan.

“I had a chat with Jose Mourinho and both he and the club were always great with me. The decision was made, and I don’t know who made it.”

After spending more than 10 years playing for Chelsea, most of the fans were expecting him to retire with the ‘Blues’ but everything changed when he announced last August that he would be leaving the club to play for New York City FC in the MLS.

Moreover, Chelsea fans were left shocked when New York City FC announced that the English international was loaned to partner club Manchester City until the beginning of the 2015 MLS season.  Lampard hasn’t played for the ‘Citizens’ yet but he could have some playing minutes in upcoming matches, as he wants to stay fit ahead of the next MLS season.

Regarding his future, Lampard added:

“What I really want now is to make a really positive impact in my time at Manchester City and then again in the next stage of my career.”
