The Sounders get a third straight win while Chivas USA keep sinking as they reach an eight-match winless streak.

The Seattle Sounders stay at the top of the Western Conference table after a 4-2 win against Chivas USA on Wednesday. The Seattle side has now a five points lead in the West after a solid display at the StubHub Center.

Obafemi Martins and Andy Rose scored two goals each, giving the Sounders a 4-0 advantage before the half time in what looked to be a disastrous night for the ‘Goats’.

For the second half, the Sounders relaxed and instead of trying to increase the advantage they conceded two early goals in the 51th and 60th minutes. This gave Chivas USA a boost to fight for a comeback but their efforts were denied as the Sounders managed to control the game.

With this result, Chivas USA remain in the last position in the Western Conference standings in their last season in the MLS as the club will disappear at the end of the season after being sold earlier this year.

Sounders manager, Sigi Schmid commented after the match:

“I thought we came out and played really well in the first half. We finished our opportunities and we probably had a few more chances to get a few more goals. I think in the second half we made it a little harder on ourselves than it needed to be.

“What I was happy with was that we came out with a good attitude. We got early goals and we were prepared.”

On the other hand, Chivas USA coach Wilmer Cabrera said:

“The second half was the best half I have seen from Chivas USA since I have been here.

“We scored goals, we put pressure, we dominated possession and our passing accuracy was the best.

“We need to replicate [that performance] for the remainder of the season. If we can do that, we will be able to grab some points and continue moving forward.”
