WHAT: After an exhilarating World Cup tournament where Latin America played a starring role and underdog Costa Rica amazed the world by making it to the quarter finals, Hispanic fútbol fans are in for a new round of excitement with the 2014 “Copa Centroamericana” (Central American Nations Cup). The biennial tournament, organized by UNCAF (Unión Centroamericana de Fútbol / Central American Football Union), is the region’s premier championship for national teams and a qualifying competition for the CONCACAF Gold Cup. The winner this year will also qualify for the 2016 Centennial Copa America.

For the first time in its 13-year history, the 2014 “Copa Centroamericana” will be played outside  of Central America and entirely in the United States. In 10 thrilling matches between September 3 and 13, fans will get an intense dose of their favorite sport and a look ahead at which CentralAmerican teams will be on their way to future international tournaments.

The national squads from Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama will face off in Washington D.C. and Texas until it’s down to the last two, whose final battle will be fought at the L.A. Coliseum in Los Angeles on Saturday, September 13. The championship match will air simultaneously on UniMás and UDN.
