Radamel García, Falcao’s father, gave the reasons why ‘The Tiger’ didn’t join Real Madrid.

On Wednesday, Falcao’s father explained the reasons why Falcao didn’t join Real Madrid in an interview given to a Colombian radio station. Falcao ended up joining Manchester United during the Transfer Deadline Day on Monday in a season-long loan from AS Monaco including a buy-out clause.

“Things with Real Madrid didn’t proceed as expected,” he said.

“When you have money and you go to the mall to buy a shirt or a pair of pants, you have to decide whether you spend the money or not. Real Madrid decided not to spend it and there’s nothing you can do.

“Apart from that, I feel like Real Madrid wanted Falcao for free.

“At the end, they decided to spend the money in what they wanted as they thought it was the best for them and you have to accept that because they are the ones with the money.”

Manchester United reportedly paid a £6m transfer fee to sign Falcao. The Colombian striker will stay one year at Old Trafford with the option of a permanent signing once the loan spell is over. The 28-year-old wages will be around £265,000 a week and if the ‘Red Devils’ want to keep the striker they will have to lash out a total of £43m in a year’s time.

With respect to his son’s move to Manchester United, García commented:

“Thanks God he joined Manchester United. Radamel is a person who has given a lot of things in Europe and he deserves the best after all the effort and sacrifices he has made.”

Falcao will be wearing number 9 at Manchester United.
