Spain and France will play one another in a friendly setting at the Stade de France on Thursday, the 4th of September 2014.

Two European heavyweights who will have different points to prove on the night will face one another in what promises to be an exciting match. Spain put forth a disappointing defense of the World Cup title they won back in 2010 after getting knocked out in the first round only.

La Roja finished third in a group comprising of Holland, Chile and Australia after getting thoroughly outclassed by the top two teams in the group. A few of Spain’s most influential players announced their desire to hang up their boots bringing an end to what has been an illustrious career for three of Spain’s best players in recent times. Del Bosque will no longer be able to use the services of midfield maestros Xavi Hernandez and Xabi Alonso, whereas Spanish all time top scorer David Villa will not feature for La Furia anymore either.

However manager Vicente del Bosque is adamant that Spain’s new generation will step up and the national side will return to its former glory also lamenting his side’s embarrassing exit from the World Cup.

"The World Cup was our error, marked by sporting circumstances, but it was neither a miserable defeat nor a bad environment in Brazil, there was a good atmosphere there," he said.

"We did what we had to do. Now our biggest concern was and is to bring ourselves back to our best.”

"The main thing is to do things with common sense. We had a generation that gave us so much success but there is no reason not to start a new generation."

France on the other hand will be looking to build up on what was an impressive display in the World Cup. Les Bleus performed admirably in the campaign and it took the competition’s best side Germany to knock them out after Joachim Low’s men picked up a 1-0 win in the Quarter-final stage.

Being the hosts of the Euro 2016 competition, France have been exempted from playing in the qualifiers giving Didier Deschamps a breather to experiment as he embarks on a two year run of friendlies.
Unfortunately for Deschamps talismanic winger Franck Ribery will no longer don the colors of France, after he announced his retirement following his failure to feature in the World Cup due to a back injury.
