According to reports, Manchester United wasn't the first choice for record signing Di Maria.

Given that their club spent nearly £60 million to bring Angel Di Maria to Old Trafford, this is not something that will please Manchester United fans too much.

The Red Devils made the Argentinian their most expensive signing ever--and the league's--by spending a record-breaking £59.7 million to prise him away from Real Madrid, and publicly, the 26-year-old enthused about making the move to the Premier League giants.

However, some reports claim that England wasn't his first choice.

Ligue 1 champions PSG were also keen on the winger, only to face a stumbling block known as FFP, and as a result, Les Parisiens had to pull out of the race.

According to the club's president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, Di Maria was keen on making a move to the French capital, but criticized Real Madrid for demanding too much for him.

"He really wanted to come to Paris, but even without FFP we wouldn't have signed him."
