Barcelona’s superstar has been ruled out of the game against Germany due to an injury to his right leg, even missing the all-star match organized by Pope Francis.

After Lionel Messi’s performance during the last World Cup, and rumors indicating a bad relationship with new Argentinian coach Gerardo Martino, his decline from the upcoming match against Germany started a heated debate on the real reasons why Messi chose not to play with his National team.

The official version states Messi came down with an injury on Barcelona's latest victory against Villarreal, but rumors surrounding the superstar indicate he would step down of any friendly matches for the remainder of the year because he wants to focus on playing with his club. Messi’s approach would be trying to obtain a top physical shape before returning with his National Team.

Coach Gerardo Martino stepped up, trying to dismiss those reports:

“Unfortunately, we as coaches have to live with this kind of stories. I can guarantee you this is the first press conference we will have to talk about him for whatever reason, and I can assure you, it can get to your nerves. After we play this game, our doctor will meet with him at Barcelona’s club house, and there’s nothing more to it. You have to get used to things like these, because he will be criticized forever, even if he scores a hat-trick,” Martino told the press.

Martino stated “La Pulga” will return as captain for the Albiceleste, and the player’s closest friends have assured he would be returning next year to play the Copa America, which will be held in June.
