Real Madrid will face Real Sociedad in a La Liga encounter on Sunday, the 31st of August at the Estadio Municipal de Anoeta.

Real Madrid’s Portuguese star has been troubled with injuries over the past weeks, something which has instigated his manager Carlo Ancelotti to rest the star forward for up to two weeks to allow him to regain full fitness.

The recently crowned UEFA player of the season had a disappointing World Cup campaign largely owing to his fitness issues and the 29 year old has claimed that he pushed himself too far last season something which did not stand in favor for his national side during the illustrious tournament.

"I wasn't fully fit and I pushed it," the forward admitted. "But it went well for me at club level.

"Things were more complicated with Portugal. Things can't always turn out ok. I've learned from what happened with my injury.

"But I don't regret doing it because I got to play for Real Madrid - who pay me and give me everything."

Ronaldo’s performances last season helped Madrid claim La Decima and the Portuguese international expressed his delight over the personal as well as the team success he achieved last season.

"In terms of individual and team honors but if you look at the last six or seven years, I've played at more or less the same level," he reasoned.

"But I'm obviously thrilled because this year I had the most individual and team success; it was a dream year."

Ronaldo’s absence should affect Madrid’s performance on Sunday, with Los Blancos having lost two high profile names in the past week in the form of Angel Di Maria and Xabi Alonso. Madrid kicked off their season last week with a rather uninspiring 2-0 win over Cordoba. Benzema and Ronaldo scored on the night but Los Merengues will have to do a lot more to get the better of a Sociedad side which will be looking to turn things around after a number of bad games.

The Royals lost to newly promoted side Eibar in their opening La Liga fixture and then suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of FK Krasnodar, thereby getting knocked out of the Europa League.

Sociedad have no fresh injury concerns but there are doubts over the likes of Alfred Finnbogason, Ion Ansotegi and Jon Gaztanaga whereas Carlos Vela is set to make his full return.
