Wenger looks to scupper Jose Mourinho's move for Loic Remy after the French manager triggered the QPR striker's release clause with a last minute £8m bid for the 27-year-old

Late on Friday, news broke claiming Chelsea reached an agreement with London rivals Queens Park Rangers for a deal to bring star striker Loic Remy to Stamford Bridge after triggering the Frenchman's £8m release clause.

After allowing Spanish striker Fernando Torres to leave the Blues on a two-year loan deal with Serie A side AC Milan, Jose Mourinho is believed to be keen on adding another forward to his ranks before the transfer window shuts close on September 1.

With Didier Drogba and Diego Costa the only two recognised forwards, the Portuguese boss earmarked the former  Olympique de Marseille ace, who spent an impressive 2013-14 season at Newcastle scoring 14 goals, as an ideal addition to his squad, a player heavily tipped with moves to Arsenal and Liverpool.

But in a surprise twist, the north London side's boss Arsene Wenger has reportedly lodged in a £8m bid for Loic Remy, also triggering the player's release clause in a last ditch attempt to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners throughout the summer were linked with a move for Loic Remy, with the 27-year-old even attending Arsenal's last home game of the previous season, but rumors were Wenger was put off by the player's £90,000-a-week wage demands, and after signing Alexis Sanchez for £30m, rumors of an Arsenal switch died off.

However, after losing fellow Les Blues international Olivier Giroud to a four month lay off due to a "small fracture to his left tibia", Le Prof has been forced to dive back into the transfer market for the ex-Montpellier player's replacement, reigniting his interest in the Hoops goalscorer.

Reaction on Twitter:

Remy, a reported Arsenal fan, will now be given the opportunity of choosing his next destination after both club's meet Queens Park Rangers' valuation, with Arsenal appearing to be favorites as Wenger can guarantee Remy more first-team action.

Who will the French QPR striker join? Will he choose the Gunners or the Blues?
