D.C. United sits atop the Eastern Conference while the New York Red Bulls look to keep climbing positions and remain in playoff contention.

D.C. United and the New York Red Bulls will meet for the second time this season on Sunday afternoon at RFK Memorial Stadium. The last time they faced each other, the result ended 1-0 in favor of United. New York Red Bulls now the opportunity to tie things up in the battle for the Atlantic Cup.

After losing against LA Galaxy on Wednesday, D.C. United looks to return to winning ways and increase their points lead at the top of the Eastern Conference. Second place in the standings, Sporting Kansas City, lost against Houston Dynamo on Friday, giving D.C. the chance to increase their lead up to four points.

United head coach, commented on his club’s midweek slip-up:

"If we don’t play up to speed, if we’re not all on the same page, and focused on every play and squeezing every ounce of talent that we have out of our team, we’re not good enough. That’s who we are, we get reminders every now and then.”

On the other hand, the New York Red Bulls keep their playoff aspirations alive after clinching to fifth place in the East following a 4-2 home win against the Montreal Impact last week. The New York side started their CONCACAF Champions League campaign with a 2-0 win over Salvadorian club CD F.A.S.

Red Bulls striker Bradley Wright Phillips is currently the top scorer in the MLS with 20 goals while teammate Thierry Henry is among the top assisting players with 11 assists; making New York’s offensive line a threat for any team.

Mike Petke, Red Bulls manager, praised Wright Phillips after last week’s outstanding performance.

“The thing that goes unnoticed about Bradley are the little things. His positioning, the way he moves, him cleaning up his first touch, which six, seven, eight months ago it was lacking [with] him. He’s scored 20 goals but he’s really cleaned up a lot of his game and he’s really stepped up and become a phenomenal player for us.”
