Fellow La Furia Roja attacker Diego Costa has been hit with a hamstring issue, an injury Chelsea fear will keep the 25-year-old former Atletico Madrid star out for six weeks.
This leaves club icon Didier Drogba as the only remaining recognized striker at Stamford Bridge, who at 36 years of age, may find leading the Blues attack difficult.
Twitter reacts. Will Remy be a good signing for Chelsea?

Remy, who was previously on the radar of Arsenal and Liverpool, moving inches to an Anfield switch before failing a medical. The 27-year-old impressed last season with Newcastle, scoring 14 goals whilst on loan with the Magpies.
Remy is keen on joining a team who is able to offer him Champions League football, a main factor to the former Marseille ace's decision to turn down an extension to his stay at St. James' Park.
