Pippo Inzaghi's first official match sees the Rossoneri taking on Lazio in their opening clash of the 2014-2015 Serie A season.

Milan will be hoping that last season's disaster will be firmly behind them as they look forward to finding their footing under new coach Filippo Inzaghi. The former Rossoneri striker, who took over from his teammate Clarence Seedorf after the latter's sacking will certainly have his work cut out for him, but  time will tell whether they will take advantage of a lack of European football and manage a successful domestic campaign.

Despite the sale of Mario Balotelli to Liverpool, one positive aspect is Stephan El Shaarawy's recovery from injury. The 21-year-old, who was a huge part in the Diavolo securing third place during the 2011-2012 season went from euphoria to despair after recurring issues kept him from playing any role last term. New signings Jeremy Menez and Alex have also started to settle in with the squad, whereas Keisuke Honda appears to be growing in confidence after a difficult initial period.

Lazio, like their opponents are not featuring in European competitions this season, and coach Stefano Pioli made it clear that his team will be fighting tooth and nail to make a return to continental competition next season.

"We, just like Milan, will be fighting for a European spot during this campaign. One benefit of not playing right now in Europe is that it will give us time to focus and prepare well for each game" the new tactician stated in a pre-match press conference.

Despite admitting that veteran striker Miroslav Klose may not be able to play for the full 90 minutes, the World Cup winner and Germany's all-time top scorer was still among the group called for the trip to Milan.

Both Inzaghi and Pioli, in their debut seasons with their respective sides, will hope to start things off right with a victory in a game that hopefully will be an interesting one for both Milan and Lazio fans, as well as general calcio followers.
