The US international defender picked a strain during Wednesday’s Capital One Cup match against Portsmouth.

Geoff Cameron is expected to be out for a couple of weeks after picking a minor abdominal strain on Wednesday during Stoke’s 3-0 win over Portsmouth in the Capital One Cup. The 29-year-old was playing his first minutes of the season and had to be replaced in the 38th minute after picking the injury.

The club confirmed the news on Thursday after Stoke City manager Mark Hughes stated that Cameron wouldn’t be in the squad that will face Manchester City on Saturday.

“Geoff picked the injury up on Wednesday and won’t be in the squad this weekend, which is disappointing. Both he and Stephen Ireland are likely to be out for a number of weeks, but thankfully we have a good squad here so there are good players waiting to come in.”

Regarding the speculations of a potential exit from Cameron, the manager added:

"I don't think there will be much happening here, to be perfectly honest, in terms of incomings or outgoings. You never know, things may change at the weekend, but I am very happy with the options I have available to me. Hopefully I will be sitting at home watching the [transfer deadline] madness unfold on the television."

Cameron joined Stoke in 2012 and has made a total of 80 appearances with 'The Potters'. He has also made 30 appearances with the U.S. national team. On Thursday, Geoff Cameron was named in the U.S. national team's roster for September’s friendly against Czech Republic in Prague but the injury could prevent him from playing this match.
